Anna + Terrell | Styled Shoot

Back in May, I had the wild idea to throw a styled shoot together in under two weeks. Why? Because the venue I wanted to shoot would be booked for the next three months solid and I didn’t want to wait that long to shoot there! So when Leah, the property manager at Block One Events in old town Fort Collins, said that mid-May would be the last opening for several months I said, “Screw it, let’s do it.” Renting the large event space also includes access to their bridal lounge and the four patios/terraces around the exterior of the space, as well as tables, chains, audio/visual equipment, and a lovely baby grand piano.

From there, I went to my friend and local business owner Abi from Starry Nights Floral and asked if she’d like to join in the fun. She agreed to create a bridal bouquet, center piece, and boutonniere for the shoot and they came out magnificently! I told her I wanted a mountain wedding vibe and gave her a mood board from Pintrest, and she absolutely ran with it and gave me something I didn’t even realize I wanted. Plus, something that some folks don’t even think about when selecting florals is how the different scents would mix. Abi’s arrangements smelled wonderfully though. Not overpowering, not nasally-confusing. Just a subtle sweetness that really match the feel of the shoot.

Now, if you’re looking for ways to do wedding decor on a budget, the good news is that it’s totally possible. For this styled shoot, I spent less than $200 total on the decor for the venue. I hit Dollar Tree for my tableware, JoAnn’s for some tulle and fake flowers, and Good Will for some cross-stitch hoops. The decorations were easy to put together on a short timeline and limited budget.

The cake was fun. The cake was a plain round cake from King Soopers. I scraped the frosting off, reapplied it, and added flowers and thyme. Voila! A simple wedding cake for a small event.

And of course a huge shoutout to my friends Mariah and Anthony who played the roles of “Anna” and “Terrell” for this wedding styled shoot. They’re not a real couple, but they’re beautiful and kind people that I loved working with. The wedding dress was found on Wish.com.

Enjoy some of my favorite shots, and go check out those awesome vendors!
